Rome against the Barbarians: A Game report?

Posted by PaulRPetri on 20 Nov 2024, 22:10

Okay not a real battle report as I stopped taking pictures very early on as the game got going!!! We had 10 brave gamers meet up last Saturday to give a full blown double army size plus some Armati war-game a try. We had 8 players with Brian and myself acting as judges since we had played the game 5 times in the last 5 weeks, in an attempt to assist the new players. Of course our previous games did not use Imperial Romans or a total Gaul force!

So the first few shots show the players and their secret deployment behind the cardboard wall. It really adds something to the game. The Barbarians stacked the left side of their line with all of the chariots and cavalry that they possesed in hopes of overwhelming the Roman right and rolling up the line. It actually worked!! Eventually!

The battle winners have broken through on the Roman right and are wheeling around to strike the rear of the unsuspecting Roman infantry!! Who let the dogs out!!

That's all the photos I have. I failed to show the Barbarian chariots crash into the rear of the Roman line as it was battling foes to its front. This was too much for the line and 8 out of the 16 cohorts were destroyed to end the game in convincing fashion for the Barbarian host!! It was a great game.

Thanks for looking!
