Thank you very much, guys!

Wheels and tracks

Image
A sprue full of wheels.

Image
Cut loose, cleaned up, assembled, ready for paint.

Image
After paint and weathering.

Image
Wheels glued in position.

Image
Standing upright.

Image
Tracks painted and weathered.

Image
The ends of the left track melted together, and the connection strengthened with sewing thread.

Image
The left track is on. Now for some lengths of iron wire to stick through the hull to force some gravity on the tracks.

Image
Like this. Now to cut on the right length, and camouflage with paint.

Image
Tracksag on the left track.

Image
And a broken track on the right side. A combination of iron wire and sewing thread is used to fix the track in this position.

Image
Upright.

Image
Turret added.

Image
Almost ready. On to the last steps.

The last additions
Only a few things left to do.

Image
Red taillight

Image
Towing cables added, adjusted the broken track so it will fit the base, and glassed the headlight using clearfix.

Image
Soot behind the exhausts.

Image
The iron wires on the tracks were camouflaged using the same paint colors as on the tracks. As the finishing touch a lot of edges were scored with a soft graphite pencil to create a metallic look.

Now for a small base and then it's finished.

Chapeau! sir! Excellent work.

You really do weathered metal very well, and you definitely have a knack of making those tracks do what you want them to. Really, really well done!

Thank you, guys!

Building a base
For making a small vignet I was inspired by a lot of German photographs of destroyed, broken down and deserted KV-2's found on the web. Apparently, because of it's huge size, the KV-2 could count on a lot of attention by German soldiers and photographers. Some examples:

This kind of pictures inspired me for the vignet.

Image
As usual I start with the rim of a yoghurt container and a piece of plywood.

Image
This time the plywood is not a perfect circle, but a bit elyptical so it fits oblique in the ring.

Image
A landscape with a ditch. Made with clay.

Image
Some basic colours to start with.

Image
Lots of colour nuances.

Image
Too late I rembered that I wanted to add some chunks of dirt and mud. So I had to glue them on top of the paint. Wrong order of procedure!

Image
Coloured again.

Image
Fake wood for the rim.

Image
Grass and some dead shrubbery.

Image
A few figures selected. Left two Airfix Germans. On the right a Matchbox officer. The paintwork is mine but vintage from the 1970's!

Image
Repainted.

Image
Shadows and highlights.

Image
Tank on the base, figure added (only used one of them in the end) and ready!

Final pictures soon!
