Actually I am partly curious if the reduced number of minis was because of a short run.

I must admit, looking at the masters, I can't see a difference between Seleucid and Ptolemaic soldiers. I know in real life they would have looked very similar.

I suppose a strength of that is it would be easy to mix and match. Sure, there are only 8 poses in this box. But there's another box of Ptolemaics coming, and since they can effectively stand in for sarissa-men, you'll probably end up with 16 or more different poses total. On some level I wanted some points of differentiation between the Ptolemaics and the Seleucids but that's just the Wargamer in me wanting each of my armies to be distinct.

Anyway, great figures, we finally have plastic Hellenistic armies!

There are three phalanx sets in queue: Seleucid, Ptolemaic and Phyrric phalanx. I suppose they will be intermixable.

Seeing I want my Pyrrhic phalanx to have 4 ranks (suggestive of the depth not actually the 16 ranks of history), these figures are *exactly* what I want.

The 8 figures fall into 2 for each rank. Rear most, the two figures with vertical pikes, next rank, the two figures with slightly lowered pikes etc.

Perfect & I want them NOW!

They took their sweet time to show that Pyrrhic phalanx. The only difference I can see between the Pyrrhic infantry and the Diadochi pikemen is the former seem to have less cloaks and their armour seems to be slightly less elaborate. I'm going to buy all of them.

The figures look good, but I am a little afraid of the Sarissas, bent and much too thick. This is also a problem with many already produced sets. The spears are often rather tree trunks -Generally I think Linear A should move to producing weapons and shields separately, allowing a greater variety of poses and leaving me the choice of weapons.

I tend to agree but I think the production process may have moved beyond allowing this to be an option.

Wherever possible, I replace javelins, spears & pikes with my own manufacture. I have making the spearheads down pat & the florist wire I use is fairly thin but still strong.

Gluing on separate shields (I use 2-part epoxy) is *not* my favourite activity but the end result is better than moulded on shields.

Depends on the material they are made out of. If they are the typical soft plastic most figures are made out of, just dip 'em in hot water and pull the spears away from the hands. They will cool and reset to that new position.

I've tried a blow dryer too. It kind of works, if the plastic isn't too thick. It didn't work when I tried it on horse necks but I suspect they were too thick.

I think the Sarissas will probably come a little bent, but at least they're easy to fix.

I finally managed to place a large combined order of Linear-A minis, including their new Celtic set and the Seleucids. It took so long for them to get to a retailer that would charge decent shipping for me, because European shipping was too much to justify, but I'm so glad I can finally get my hands on the Celts and finish my army.

I'm just generally thankful Linear-A exists and look forward to more of their stuff.

We've got a lovely painted picture of the Ptolemaic Infantry. I'm starting to think Linear-A made 24 poses of pikemen and they just decided to arbitarily divide them between three different armies, I can't tell the difference between them:
