I took a look at PSR for this war and it seems that you have found a lot of figures to paint that not are form BUM. As usual a great display and great to see all those figures, especially since I don't recognize any of them! :-D

Wow, this is too much at one! Soo many pictures....
1. The Spanish civil war is a very interesting topic.
2 . Very nice to see the different factions and militia's represented.
3. Soo many beautiful and interesting vehicles and figures.
4. Great paintwork. I love your soft style.

Going back to a topic I really like, here’s another Moroccan Regulars Tabor. The green sash and gaiters mark them as recruits from Ceuta. I have also included a couple of mountain howitzers and a command base for the Nationalist North African army.
I am planning to stay linked to this topic for a while ...

Great Moroccan units Joan.

Got me curious why colonial recruits would want to fight for Franco. Had some interesting reads during my search. It appears that problem number one was that the Republicans wanted to continue the colonial yoke uninterrupted. And, most of the Morrocan recruits did not have much choice in the matter.

As you said, moriccan recruits had not much choice.. They actually did not "join Franco", they actually they were part of the spanish regular Army in África Before civil War started...
These were hardened troops which had been fighting against Rif and other moroccan rebels for years...
Franco was then already one of their main generals

When spanish civil War started, most generales of Army in África joined the insurreccion against government in Madrid, and obviously their troops followd them. Not much a question of choice...Specially when these soldiers were used to follow orders and fight any enemy pointed by their spanish commanders...why not also spanish enemies as well?

Dear Bluefalchion, think that at the time of the Civil War, the Spanish army was made up of recruits. The only professional soldiers with long service experience were in North Africa: the Spanish Foreign Legion or the Moroccan units that have been fighting the rebel tribes of the Rif for the past 20 years. The Africans in the service of the Spanish army were not Moroccan nationalists, but mercenaries who have been fighting and killing their own people with extreme ferocity. Mostly illiterate peasants for whom being part of the army was the only way out of extreme poverty.

I totally agree with Peter. It's great when we can learn a bit of history along with looking at the eye candy. Speaking of which, these are some more terrific figures. I love the variety of subtle tones you achieve with your painting and washes.

Hi

Some reinforcements to bulk up the SCW Nationalist side: Heavy and medium guns, artillery tractor, mortar and a command base.

All guns are different to show the extreme heterogeneity of the Spanish artillery park of the time. Only the tractor (Landesa) and the peculiar medium mortar (Valero) were of Spanish dessign and manufacture.

Figures are a mix of ad hoc metal Minairons and a melée of different origin Hat/Strelets plastic bodies with metal Minairons head swap. The heavy guns (155 mm Schneider and 105 Vickers), the Valero Mortar and the Landesa Tractor are metal or resin from Minairons. The others are Hat's from their WW1 range.

In a few days I'm going to post the Basc Euzko Indara Battalion, adding some more exoticism to the melting pot of the Republican army.

I enjoyed looking at these artillery pieces, mortar, tractor and crews, but I am REALLY looking forward to seeing the Basques of the Indira battallion!!
