Covenanter Horse

Posted by Ochoin on 26 Sep 2018, 10:13

I'm building a Covenanter army, mostly using Tumbling Dice figures. These are "large" 20mm figures, so compatible with the bigger plastic offerings (ie not Revell TYW figures).

One issue is Scottish cavalry. It’s reckoned to be fairly awful & I have 2 units of TD “pickers”. I really need a third unit: preferably pistol armed, almost Moss Trooper like.
I’ve been trolling PSR & found something. I'm generally not a big fan of Mars figures.

How awful do you think these are?

About half could wear the existing helmets & the others could get a ‘bunneted’ head from Tumbling Dice.

Am I fooling myself?

IMHO once painted, the Mars figs look fine.

The only set I have is the heavy artillery box. The figures are a little flat but really, they're OK.

Apart from Tumbling Dice, Covenanter Horse is rather hard to find so I think with some conversion work, they should do.

Thanks for the advice.

Have you looked at the Irregular Miniatures Scots cavalry?

Thank you for your reply.

It would seem they'll be too small to easily fit in:

A pity as they look quite nice.

No honestly I have some, they fit in well with everything else. Their Scots infantry are also very good for both sides of the conflict, I'll try and take some photos of mine if you like.

I have a few of their Ancients & those are small. The bulk of my ECW armies are Revell (large) & Tumbling Dice (large). If you think they're OK, I'd love to see comparison shots.

I've already rejected SHQ figures because they're too small. I'm not that picky, I thought....
