Working from pictures in books of the Waterloo period I modelled La Belle Alliance in 1/72 scale. This was long before the Days of the Internet. I have recently ordered a 6mm resin scale model of this place,and just incase I see it as of no use I intend to draw up the plans again in 6mm ,10mm ,and 15 mm scale. What follows is the first drawing of that process.
It might seem very odd,but this is the way this building can be simply drawn out on card very faintly. In order to show how I work things out,i have heavily imprinted it out in ink on a piece of scrap card,as an illustration only,so every viewer hopefully will understand the logic applied here. It is not complicated technical drawing at all,but a simply way to mark out just where the windows and doors are on the actual building,along with the end walls,and in this case the lean to brick kitchen which can be seen on my finished model . The D for Doors,and the W for windows,and the blank spaces between them where the wall is.
When I mark out in faint lines my paper card I always draw longer lines then are needed to make up the front section of this model,because in actual fact the same lines correspond with windows and doors on the other side of the building. So by simply turning the card around ,the other side can be traced out too. All that is needed is a straight edged right angled paper card ,and a good Set Square! . Using the set square correctly from one side,the Horizontal lines across astablish the top and bottom of the building and the height of each door and window. Simple. The next stage is drawing up the plans for each end wall of the building with the Apex included,then the Kitchen end wall, and then start cutting it all out. The Old Saying, "Simple is, as Simple Does," applies here.
I thought to include this photo ,because it shows the exstention to the front of the building added well after the Waterloo period,and one of the chimneys have been removed from the kitchen, but the slight mark where it had once been can be seen . it would be so easy to model this building wrongly,so much more research needs doing.
