Light Cavalry 1747

Posted by paul haring on 24 Mar 2022, 17:25

This 54mm figure is created with Historex parts. I got inspired by an old painting of a Dutch cavalryman.
Painting of the horse is done in oils to create the dapples. The rider is painted in acrylics from Valejo and washes with Citadel contrastImage

Very nice horse and rider Paul. You have painted them authentic to the picture and surpass it my opinion. The dapple gray horse is a beautiful mount, all cavaliers should be so lucky to ride one. Great work sir. I can't help but notice the saddle cloth color looks very close to Austrian from Napoleonic era; would this be due to being part of the Holy Roman Empire at the time? We Americans tend to not be terribly well versed on EU history.

Thank you Bessiere for your comment.
As for the saddle-cloth. We had Dutch regiments in white and red. So the red colour should be correct. My only doubts were the form of the cloth. A bit roundish at the back, but I couldn't find more referencepictures. So, I took the guess.

In fact it is painted with Vallejo silvergrey, shadowed with Citadel Space wolf’s grey and highlighted with vallejo cold white

Great work on assembling and painting. Pity that background is brighter than figure :eh:
