Hi Folks,
I want to share my latest work with you. Yesterday I finished my 28mm giant War Robot "Leviathan Crusader" from Dreamforge Games, which I purchased years ago. I think the company doesn`t exist anymore.
I started to build this fully poseable robot with changeable weapon arms years ago, but had no idea to implement it to a diorama…so it was left half built inside its box..The look brought me to an alternate WW1 scenario with the robot assaulting an enemy fortified position. I searched the web for fitting figures and finally found Forgeworlds very expensive but great resin minis of the "Death Korps of Krieg" (what a name) for Warhammer 40K. The soldiers look like a mixture of WW1 French and German troops. For some fleeing or dead enemies I created some Sci Fi soldiers using a wild mixture of Sci Fi and historical pewter, plastic and resin parts.
Painting was done with usual colors from different brands. For the crusaders helmet I found a very old but unopened pot of Humbrol metal cote in my shelf (paint and polish afterwards) and was flashed by the realistic steel look. I also used this for some of the weapon parts. The Crusader normally has a sword arm. But at the time I purchased it there were changeable weapon options for sale, so I decided to give him a "Beowulf/Grendel" gun as heavy artillery. The crusaders armor on arms and legs was painted with iron pigments and rust fluid, so the rust is real. In my opinion this method can only be used on large models like this robot, because the color is very thick and overpaints small details like rivets and bolts.
I also managed to illuminate the helmet with two small LED-lensers inside the head and give it a green shine with the help of green plastic foil, glued to the inside of the helmets visors. But you have to remove the helmet to activate it....I had the idea to do some Illumination when I already had closed the torso and there was no easy way to reopen it again .
The base is a heavily modified foam part for wargaming purposes by Ziterdes. Added more sandbags, a wooden planking and battle damage and repainted it completely.
And here is the final result. Hope you like it.
Cheers from Bavaria
