Nacht Hexen - Night Witches

Posted by panzerman825 on 28 Feb 2021, 09:23

Image
This is a forced perspective diorama depicting a night time raid by female, Russian bomber crews. The Nacht Hexen or Night Witches.

Image
The scales used are 1/72, 1/76, 1/87, 1/100, & 1/144.

Image
In the extreme background is the Zvezda, 1/144 scale, Po-2 biplane. I even scratchbuilt an aircrew for it.

Image
This is the ESCI, 1/72, Opel Blitz with the Zvezda 20mm AA gun added. Figures are from Zvezda & Caesar miniatures.

Image
In front is the Fujimi, 1/76, SdKfz.222 Armored Car. Behind it is the Roco, 1/87, Opel Blitz truck. I also added 3 lighted, explosion effects to the diorama.

Image
Here is the Nitto Kagaku, 1/76, Kubelwagon. I battle damaged it for the explosion effect. Behind it is the 2nd, Roco, 1/87, Opel Blitz. I scratchbuilt a searchlight, and added a lighting effect.

Image
The doomed figures are conversions from my spares bin.

Image
The 1/87 scale figures are from Preiser. The SdKfz. 251 behind them is from Zvezda in 1/100 scale. The troops are metal figures from Flames of War in 1/100 scale.

Image
The kubelwagon behind the searchlight truck is a 3D printed item I got off of Evilbay.

Image
Though not visible, I did add long hair and bosoms to the Po-2 aircrew to make them females.

Thanks for viewing. Questions, comments, or concerns are welcomed.

What a really different composition.

I really like the modelling , groundwork and concept, although personally I am not a fan of the the explosions.

The aircraft are lovely and there is a real ‘feel’ of the terror these brave ladies brought to the battlefield.

Well done.

Best wishes,

Chris

Fabulous looking diorama on an interesting subject, and the forced perspective has worked very well.

Even though we can't see it I'm pleased to hear that you feminized the figures in the planes, I think that shows respect to the original female air crews.

Wow, I love this diorama with all the special effects and the different scales working perfectly together. My favourites are the Opel truck with the AA-gun and the flying Kübelwagen. It was a good thing not to use the Flakvierling (quad Flak), as provided with the old Esci/Italeri-model of the Opel Blitz. The Flak-model is cruel and as far as I know it was too heavy for the truck.

The bombers with all the fine wire parts are also perfectly done models.

Cheers from Bavaria!

A big "Thank You" to everyone who commented so kindly on my humble work. Receiving acknowledgement from such talented peers boosts one's moral. It is truly appreciated.
@Graeme, below are some in progress photos of the Polikarpov's femanized crew figures. I also forgot the state that the Po-2 is the old KP kit in 1/72 scale. I was expecting a dog of a kit, but was pleasantly surprised. The detail was good and the fit excellent. Thanks again. Bill

I like seeing a forced perspective diorama for a change, the wrecked car made even more interesting. Explosions and fires are a challenges that I've spent much time thinking about how they could be simulated in a realistic way.

Cool idea for the background... and the rest of diorama is nice as well.
