The original idea is that he picks something from a bush or tree in the monks´ garden. But other suggestions here suggest he is quite versatile, directing the choir, patting someone, quite useful in other words.

Yes, picking grapes or brambles (depending on where the monastery is), or he could be holding a hoe or rake or broom.

Or perhaps he's waving to those unexpected visitors in the longships. :xd: Very versatile figure and I really like the expression on his face.

Love the singing monks, so real I can hear them. I think Eric's monks must be in an Almodovar movie, and I get that... But I hear this:

They're 2cm length in 1/72, adjusted to the Zvezda 100YW English infantry set. Of course the entire model can be made bigger.
