Life in Roman times

Posted by chen on 31 May 2023, 13:17

Dear gents,

Here is yet another long running project of mine. As I read more about the researches on Roman history I've become more and more interested in the 'trivial' aspects of ordinary Roman life. So hopefully I'll represent my learning with mini figures.

Amazing paintjob. And I think one can see who good Strelets figs can look when painted! :yeah:

Nicely painted figures, well done !

A reminder also of the quality of Strelets' sculpting, maybe not on all their sets but certainly on a good proportion of them.

And, with history in mind, a reminder too of the cruelty of some aspects of the Roman Empire...even though the Romans were sometimes also a force for good (ie: "What did the Romans ever do for us !?........"

Really nice color palate! and well shaded too.

What sets do these come from? some pretty nice selection of daily life type of stuff that I like.

Super work. The skin tones in particular are excellent and the faces give them all so much character.

Wonderful collection of Roman civilian figures, Chen. They are all very original and superbly painted: the shepherds, the senators, the slave market,... I especially love the shepherd with a dog eating an apple. :notworthy:  :notworthy:  :notworthy:

Hi Howlin,
They are mainly from Linear-B:
Roman slave market

Roman market

The shepherd and the guy eating apple is from Strelets set 131
http://plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=1843

The senators are a mixture of strelets' plastics and resin figures of unknown brand which I bought long ago from ebay...

The sheep and goats and the dog are Pegasus' set of farm animals.

Dear Chen,

It is so nice to see you are still active here in this forum. And even better, you are painting figurines that are some of my favorites. And best of all: I think I have never seen these Roman civilians being painted so good as you did. My compliments.

Hi Mr. Cryns,
Thanks a lot for your compliments. I'd like to say that I feel the same with your work (both painting, modelling and sculpting) on rare ancient subjects. They are truly masterpieces! I wish I could find myself time and budget to order one of your marvellous merchant ships in the near future.

Best Regards,
Chen
