Hät El Cid heavy infantry

Posted by blacksmith on 07 Apr 2023, 14:24

Hi,
I bought this set to make some units for Gondor (LOTR) but first I painted these ones as Normans. Figures are a bit flat but good overall. I'm still experimenting with Vallejo Xpress, washes and normal paints.

Real nice painted figures!

I have them to and they are indeed a bit flat but they have nice details. ;-)

I get what you mean when you say they are a bit flat but nevertheless they are nicely sculpted minis. However, your paintwork is first class blacksmith. I love your painting style - choice of colours, gradations of colours, especially the deep shadows in the folds, nice shield motives (although the yellow/burgundy one is a bit wonky). Can’t wait to see your Men of Gondor variants.

A nice collection of very well-painted figures, fine work!

This is a very useful set for early medieval western European infantry (eg: Normans, as well as the intended El Cid Spanish). One of HaT's best sets in my opinion.

These are very beautifully painted. I like your choice of palette a lot and the cloth treatment is very well rendered. And the shields are great!

Thanks Rich. Xpress are good to be used with washes and other paints but not alone IMHO.

You'll see them but there are other figures in the queue first. Cheers.

I like the whole range from HäT for that ToW. I have them all and I hope I can paint some of them nearly as good as you someday. Very fine and detailed work.

Btw.: I planed to use the Moorish Cavalry as troops of House Nymeros Martell of Sunspear for my GoT armies. Another job on hold... :eh:

Other wonderfully painted figures, Javier. No matter what historical period they are from or what fantasy world, the result is always the same: superb.

Oh fantastic, fantastic, the painting is so neat and vivid. The sculpts are a little flat, but at least the details are nice and you make them pop nicely!
