Operation Fustian Primosole Bridge, Sicily, July 14th, 1943

Posted by Bill Slavin on 24 Oct 2023, 01:52

We were back to WWII again this month, moving on to the Sicilian invasion of July 1943. Three days after the launching of the invasion, the British 1st Parachute Division, in Operation Fustian, was dropped to seize Primosole Bridge over the Simeto River, in order to pave the way for the 8th Army advance.
This battle was fought on a 6' x 7.5' board, using my 1/72 WWII toys and played with the Battlefront WWII ruleset. Alan took the Germans while I ran the British. The scenario is a replay of one that I wrote for this ruleset many years ago.
Here is a link to the full AAR, lots more photos.

And here are a few pics of the action:

Excellent re fight of this important Sicilian action.

The camouflage works a bit too well on some of your pictures Bill but that is the point of it!

Very nice indeed and I am thinking of re visiting my WW11 arsenal.

Oh no.

Best wishes,

Chris

Impressive photos, thanks for sharing Bill ! I like the sepia shading of the pictures very much, which to my eyes gives a suitably authentic WW2/1940s feel. Great stuff ! :yeah:

Thanks, all. Yes, the figures do disappear in the terrain sometimes, Chris! I never have that problem with Napoleonics. :-D

That looks very nice! Isn’t that the action, by the way, where both sides dropped paratoops in? I seem to remember being in a scenario from this at a Cold Wars or Historicon many years ago …

If memory serves that was on Bone airfield in Tunisia? Although there were Jerry Fallschirmjager knocking about around Primosole Bridge.
