Action at Castalla, 21 July, 1812

Posted by Bill Slavin on 15 Oct 2023, 17:13

We playtested Brian North's new scenario last weekend, the action at Castalla in eastern Spain. It was an ill-conceived attack by the Spanish on Suchet's spread out caontonments, with an initially small force on the table at the beginning, expanding as reinforcements from both sides arrived. Lots of fun and the full AAR can be found here:

Here are some photos from the game.

Lovely table as always Bill. I'm curious to know where your Spanish cavalry came from: are they HaT Prussian dragoons converted? Looks like a terrific scrum.
Cheers,

Yes, Bessiere, well spotted! At least Montesa, the line cavalry, are HaT Prussians, pretty much a perfect match for the Spanish. But the Spanish dragoons entering in the last picture are a mixture of the above and some newly painted Black Watch dragoons I had wanted to get forever, which I hope to share with the forum once I have properly photographed them.

Lovely as always Bill.

Your units are excellent and again the ‘feel’ is always present.

Watch out for your French artillery guys. Some of them are loosing their paint covering.

It’s a nightmare with my HAT guys, requiring constant touching up.

Best wishes,

Chris

You're right, Chris! Actually playing with these guys means a periodic refurbishing of paint - sigh!
