I had the good fortune of running a game at our local wargame convention "Little Wars" which is held in the suburbs of Chicago. I started going to this convention around 1985 or 1986 my memory fails me on the exact year. Anyway I decided to run the Reichenberg game I reported on a few months back on this wonderful forum. I hesitate to use the Shako rules in the description as I have made so many changes to the rules over the last month they bear only a slight resemblance to the original.
So the first few images show the players busily setting up behind the cardboard screen. Many people commented on the screen all in a very positive way. Caught me off guard a bit.
The Austrians are busily setting up a strong defense.
The Prussians setting up for the attack. Lots of wargame paraphernalia mucking up the picture. Shame on me!
Once the cardboard wall was taken down we see a mass of Austrian infantry on their right flank ready for action and the rest of the battleline stretching off into the distance.
A shot of the Prussian center ready to step off to the attack.
The Prussian left flank got the jump on me and have raced forward and deployed into line before I could get some photo's! The giant hand in action!
Some devastating Prussian artillery fire has cleared a hole in the left of the Austrian line and the Prussian infantry wants to exploit it!
The eager Austrian commander on the right has moved off to the attack like Dan Sickles at Gettysburg!
The cavalry of both sides is sizing each other up.
The Prussian cavalry about to launch a massed attack.
The Austrians bracing for the hammer blow.
The Confederates er.. I mean the Prussians meet the Union.. uh the Austrian surge.
The center and flank right or left depending on the side, have exchanged volley fire!
If you look carefully the Prussian center has been wiped out! Top of picture.
The Prussian center is gone!! However an Austrian grenadier unit is in the process of getting picked up.
Initially the Prussians lost the opening melee, sorry no action shots, but then cleaned up on all of the following actions. The Austrians will not be happy soon.
It would appear that the Prussians have clear sailing on their right flank. However there army morale is about to give out.
The Austrians are mopping up the remaining Prussians in this sector.
And so it ended. This action took about one hour nad forty minutes. I gave each unit 2 hits then they were removed. If a unit lost a melee it was picked up and removed. For army morale each army got a point for each infantry, cavalry and artillery unit, none for light troops. Then a second point was given for each grenadier unit. The first side to give up all of their gold coins, (army morale points) lost the battle. I must admit the game was very bloody and I have made a few changes to tone it down just a bit but overall it worked out as great convention game. Thanks to all of my brave gamers who got stuck in.
Thanks for having a look.
