Italeri V Tamiya?

Posted by west1871 on 05 Sep 2013, 20:18

Hi all,
I was looking at trying a few 1/35 kits to try and embrace the larger scales :-D Are tamiya better figures than italeri? Or are there any other brands out there worth a try?

Cheers Rich

As in figures or vehicles?I can only really comment on vehicles, which are pretty much the same quality wise.
Try looking at a Chinese firm called Trumpeter. Their 1/35 stuff is outstanding.

Cheers I have a lot of trumpeters 1/72 stuff and your right they are good. I was thinking of figures mainly and small AFV or jeeps and similar sized stuff ( small room).

For ww2 in 1/35 scale I can recommend Master Box. Good price-quality ratio and very interesting subjects.
They have some modern sets too but ww2 is their main period,

Outstanding tip Kekso mate, if we ever meet face to face their is a beer  with your name on it! Bought a set of WWII German mountain troops and Russian Naval troops. A lot of interesting sets I will be looking at, all I need to do now is learn how to paint 1/35 scale

I have done a few of these figures over the years. The old Tamiya figures are outdated, but their newer ones can be very nice.
For example, I have built this new kit and they are some top-notch figures, they are easy to assemble, and nicely sculpted and in good poses: http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/list/35mm/html/35192.htm
but the old set is not as good http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/list/35mm_img/35048m.jpg

Dragon also has some very nice figure kits http://img1.afv-news.com/2009/12/dragon-6574-german-warriors-1940-41.jpg . I made a tank crew that came in a StuG III one time.
That's about the extent of my 1/35 knowledge :?

Cheers for the info Ben, it's a lot more knowledge that I have  I suppose it's no different from 1/72 in quality terms, you have your Redbox at one end and your zvezda at the other. As time goes by people want better products and companies learn how to improve to meet customers demands.
