A new Changing of the Guard at Spanish Army Headquarters

Posted by Santi Pérez on 06 Jun 2024, 13:24

On 29 April I posted a report on the changing of the guard that took place on Friday 26 April at the Buenavista Palace, site of the Spanish Army Headquarters, located in the centre of Madrid.

There I mentioned that there are two types of celebration of this ceremony, which alternate from one month to the next.

While in one month the participating soldiers (always belonging to the Infantry Regiment nº 1 ‘Inmemorial del Rey’) wear uniforms from the reign of Carlos III, from the second half of the 18th century, the following month they wear uniforms from 1908, corresponding to the reign of Alfonso XIII (these were the ones used at the 26 April event).

1908 uniform:

18th century uniforms:

Although all the steps of the ceremony are the same as those mentioned in the previous post, in the event held on Friday 31 May the uniforms used was those of the 18th century.

On this occasion, I didn't take photos, but I did take the following video report, whose YouTube link I leave here, for anyone who wants to see it:

I hope you like it. Thank you very much for watching and best regards. :-D

Thanks to you, Donald. :-)

I'm proud to live in a country that still bothers to preserve and promote the traditions of our historical and cultural heritage that have brought us to the present day. ;-)
