WW2 Tiger II and Sdkfz 251

Hi Dom
Looks good with the bunker roof. It's just a shame that you can't see the characters so well anymore.

How do you make the snow? It looks very convincing.

I use two layers of "snow". The first one is composed of coarse-grained sand, mixed with glue and white color.
The second layer is very subtle white sand, which gives the impression of fresh fallen snow.

Slow progress due to stress at work and holiday planning, but at least I managed to set up the trenches (still some painting missing). Hope you like it:

Managed it to get some terrain stuff done during the weekend.
Since it was/is a rule to set up your defensive positions inside of a forest, if possible, I decided to create a birch tree forest. This will help to avoid reconnaissance by air as well to provide cover and camouflage.
The camouflage starts to pay off and the vehicles blend in well I think. I gonna add a bit more vegatation later on I think.
Next I have to paint some more soldiers for the trenches and some additional camouflage for the bunker and tank.

Another mini-update.
Added some camo, some vegetation and some minor improvements.

Another three guys joined the depth of winter.
One more MG42 will give that troop some heavy punch und a "panzerfaust" for AT capability.
Might be a bit overkill (2x MG 34 inside of the tank, 1x MG42 on the SdKfz, 1x MG34 inside the bunker and 1x MG42 in the trench, but I think it does look nice though).
4 more guys for the trenches will follow and then I might add a mortar, some supplies and the tank crew next to the SdKfz and Tiger II and thats it then :-)

What's working out quite good is the conversion of the these guys to winter uniform. Unfortunately, there ain't too many good or accurate winter figures on the market for the later years of WW2 I think.

And another two soldiers have arrived. Two more will follow and then I need to decide if I will add a mortar or not. Some more close ups from the winter front line:

Normally I am not a big fan of winter dioramas and I try to avoid them if possible because everything is white in white.....your diorama is different....with the trenches, the vehicles and the vegetation it looks so realistic and with the many white tones also "colorful" in it´s own way.....Great!!!

This is also my first winter diorama and I had the same thoughts.
How does it look like when its all white?
When I started, I realized that it looks well in a black and white manner, thats why I choose birchs as trees, too keep an overall fitting color scheme.
The brown of the trenches makes it further interesting by adding some contrast to the otherwise white color.
But my favorite part is adding further contrast colors in a few spots to draw attention to, such as the equipment of the soldiers, the ammonition box of the MG's, or as simple as the red leather of the rifle belts or the green armband.
I do like to add hidden gems, which are only visible by examining the diorama very closely, like the shot out ammo of the MG or the tanker with the 3 day beard.
I have seen couple of dioramas here on bennos which are stunningly full of tiny details, where I can only dream about and I highly respect the work spend to it.

Nice detail with the dirty lower legs on the crewmen.
