Half-orc archers

Posted by Ochoin on 12 Oct 2024, 23:57

Five boxes of Dark Alliance 1/72 plastic fantasy figures will soon arrive for my new army of Uruk-Kai (or half orcs).
There's a lot of painting between now & when they'll hit the table for a game of Oathmark or, perhaps, Dragon Rampant. Next year, some time?

The plastic pile will not have many missile troops. I know from various ancient gaming, an army not able to throw things is quickly mopped up by an army that can. See some of my NKE vs Sea Peoples' games.

So, at some stage, I'll want 20 or so archers. Any suggestions from sources not DA or Caesar? (you'd need multiple boxes of each to get enough which would not be cheap). And that would fit in with my "man-high" Uruks?
And are not ridiculously "cartoony"?

Suggestions welcome.

Hey Donald. Take a look at these Goblins they have several archer types in the box

However they are Redbox Dark Alliance types. It was all I could think of.

This would probably be the safe option.
Buying figures in different scales & hoping they'd scale down to 1/72 is a bit of a lottery.

Thanks.

Eureka man orcs might work. They' re a bit smaller, but vry similar in appearance.

With fantasy, you can fudge size a bit more than with historicals.

Are the Eureka figures15mm? This might be too small.

15/18mm. There is an article in 1/72 multiverse titled "an orc" that has comparison pictures.

Thanks for your advice. I think they might do- as "goblin auxiliaries" for the Half-Orc warband....or something.

Saruman must've had some lesser orcs and goblins around.
