Probably the best sculpted bodies I've ever seen...
A pity that is not a subject that I'm planning to do...

Congratulations...!!

Excellent looking figures, certainly very useful for a longer ancient time period and versatile uses (manning ships, construction sites, war machines, capturing & fighting Cyclops or other mythological creatures... ).
:yeah: :yeah: :yeah:

I see that you have modelled my physic perfectly in these muscular fellows!

As always, Mr C, with your work, perfection comes as standard.

Brilliant work.

Best wishes,

Chris

What a journey from a young person purchasing miniatures at a model shop, bringing them home to admire and possibly paint, to the person creating the figures and ships from the ground up for others to do the same. Where to next? I bet it will be an exciting place.

For the next year it will be more Greek figurines and more Greek ships. But also cargo packs.

Here is a preview for a new figurine set that will be available soon:

Truly extraordinary sculpting Mr Cryns. Congratulations! These chaps have had life sculpted into them. I am in awe of you. The painting is also splendid, the flesh tones are beautiful. If I had to be critical I might say the skin colours are all a bit too similar. But that is really nitpicking, I know! . As they say “ Variety is the spice of life!”

If so, the first figure, top row might be just perfect. I am similarly situated in that department.

Dear K.B.

Thanks for your feedback.

Very interesting you say this. I have to admit I did not pay any attention to this idea at all.

In the past I put my energy in finding the right skintone for Mediterranean people who (being ancient sailors or harbourworkers) work all day in the full sun with few cloths on. After painting their skintones dark flesh / light brown, I was adviced by some forummembers here, like Kostis and Frankzett, who explained me about Mediterranean people having a skin that is pretty sunlight resistant. So I made the skins lighter.

I have seen several ancient Greek sculptings and vasepaintings representing black Africans.
We all know the mix of skintones from ancient Egypt.
All of them must have mingled when they spread out over the Mediterranean sea.

This means all skintones between black and white were probable in the Classical Greek Period in the Greek influenced harbours.

But I have no idea in what ratio. Does anyone here have a suggestion?

The precise ratio will likely never be known, as race is a more modern and troublesome concept.

If you want to incorporate the suggestion, which I think a good one, paint the next display batch as above, but with one or two a bit darker and one or two a bit lighter. That should serve, I would think.

I love your painting on these figures, but if you want to incorporate the suggestion, as Aaron says, a well-diluted wood stain varnish applied with the brush on the flesh areas of some figures can be a solution. :-D
