These highlanders look way better than the new British firing line from strelets, which had very odd looking muskets, that were much too short in my eyes. But these highlanders surely will fill up my ranks.

I'm going to sound awfully picky....I'm not sure. There's still something a little odd about them.

I could do with replacement figures for my venerable Airfix Highlanders but I might wait till I see these painted up.

I just received sets of the Austrian Uhlans and French Chasseurs. The lances are badly bent and the horses barely have ears and one horse is way too leggy. Those are my sole complaints and otherwise they're very well done. The added civilians are a nice touch. 8 out of 10 on my scale.

Can suitable horses from a different source be acquired for a reasonable price?

WSS Bavarian Infantry?
Just guessing. Sorry, but the picture is again too small for me to identify the figures properly.
Anyway, looking great!

These figures constitue a perfect firing line. Strelets says they represent a country close to Austria (but not Austria). So we all guess Bavaria. However, to me these are generic enough and I will use them also as French for sure. I mean they do not wear leather trousers or carry beer barrels on their backs, nor do they feature a Raupenhelm.

P.S. I do not want to be NCO in this regiment...

That field kitchen is very cool. What a peaceful scene. The vignette with the soldier feeding a hungry child is quite touching.

I do not usually purchase non-combat sets, but this one might be a "must have."

I'm not interested in the figures. Not my period. But the boxart is something I like. It looks like a painting and that's why I like it. ;-)

Friday preview. As has been noticed at the Strelets forum, these may indeed be WWII Italians. Somehow I'm not really convinced though.
Nice & useful looking poses here.

The PSR review of the new Guards Chausseurs is up.

http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/review.aspx?id=2461

The review states that these are parade figures, but with overalls and without plumes, and therefore incorrect.

But didn't these men wear something close to full dress when in the field and serving as the Emperor's personal guard? Maybe the set up as portrayed could therefore be plausible.

Where is FredG when we need him...

Not sure. I've searched the web for contemporary pictures of the Chasseurs thus dressed but couldn't find any. If the pelisse was worn in the field, it seems that it was usually worn with arms in sleeves, not over the shoulder - at least for the rank and file. The Centjours site gives an example. It seems there was a kind of field dress with Hungarian boots and green trousers, but most common at least for the later campaigns seems to have been green overalls and dolman only. Understandable as the pelisse was a costly item. According to Lucien Rousseleot (Napoleon's Army 1790 - 1815), the pelisse was worn in the Peninsular in 1808, but from 1809-15 it was just dolman and overalls.
Also the plume was not usually worn in the field. However this can be easily remedied - I usually use the plumes from Zvezda Set 8042 French Elite Infantry Voltigeurs. Just cut them off over the round pommel, drill a hole into the busby, glue and voilà!
