hi fellowmembers,

some time ago i have painted the hat sumerians wich are not realy the best figures on the market but, and i realy dont know why, i personally like them a lot. So i just had to buy and paint them…
what is a bit of a shame is that these are made of that horrible bendable plastic. and as you can see a lot of the spears of the ur-sperman that were quite straight have bent in time …
But well enough said here are the pictures :

I like the style of the figures as well! So I also like your army. The Sumerians looks really cool with their big shields and their war wagons. Do you plan to paint a counterpart as well?

I also like this set but I'm not sure why. They have a sort of cute weirdness in their favour and I like the fact that they represent the very beginning of military history.

I've always seen the set as being quirky and fun but Your splendid painting has transformed them into a really formidable looking army. Very nicely done.

I too have a set simply because they are so quirky and cool... I love the shield wall

I use a handful as a allied tribe to Persia with the shield wall and light spears for a defensive tactic.

does paint stay on these guys? I tend to use artist acrylic from tubes but maybe I should use something better.

When you degrease your figures with a soapbath I don't think you will have problems.

I have some old (Celts) and upcoming chariots (Hittites) that may need such a touch

When you degrease your figures with a soapbath I don't think you will have problems.

Thats exactly what i always do. Just wash them with warm water and a little bit of soap. Then i base them with a cheap spray can and then i paint them with vallejo colours and finally i seal them with a matt spray varnish. so far i stays on ......

. What have you used to make the reins?

just some thin string that i soak in pva/water. when its getting harder i shape it in the form i want it and stick it to the fig with super glue. I must confess that it takes some patience but it look fine in the end .

they are very nice, these Sumerians. With whom will they fight and what will be the colours of the buttons of the 2nd and 3rd regiments?
Sincerely, great collection. One tiny little opinion - I find the grass too green (like flashy green) in your landscape. Doesn't fit so well with the arid rest and also the muted colours of the guys.

Cool army . I like very much this set too, it might not be the best technically speaking, but has a nice distinct flavour to it. I personally like this plastic, obviously for the spears is a headache, for the rest at least it glues very well.

When unpainted, if you place the soldiers in hot water, the spears become straight again. Now of course, being painted is another matter. Maybe with a hair drier, if the paint can resist it.
