Thanks, I've now made a jig for painting shield so I can get the lines straighter and the sub divisions more equal.
My grandfather was from Chicago, he lived there during the 30's, and there is a picture of my mum who lived there with him for a while standing in between drifts of snow, though I think that that was in Sheboygan, so I have a good idea what it's like round there at this time of year.
Grandad went to work in New Mexico on the Manhattan project and stayed there, living in El Paso,

We've had snow this year and everybody freaked out - as they do.
We've also had a named storm - Eowyn. 100 mph winds record for the first time, but not where we live, a mere 50mph.

Here are a couple of pictures of my grand-dad.
The 'Ronald Coleman' look, I wish I could look that elegant!

He was in a Chicago barber shop once, and bent down to pick something up, just as someone sprayed the place with gunfire, fortunately he was not hit.

And rocking a sombrero he obviously did NOT want to wear.


He never flew when he came to visit, he always came by boat, and we knew he was imminent because a box of Manx kippers would arrive at our house (he ordered them as the ship passed the Isle of Man and they'd be air-shipped to ours.

All of those figures look amazing, Steve, you've done a great paintjob on them. My favorites are the wizards.

The Frost Giant arrived, so here is the WIP

Loads of lovely detail and quite easy to work on.





I think the skin needs more white but I'm going to leave it overnight and have another look tomorrow.

Had to make my own base with what I had to hand, but I'm quite happy with him so far.

Just as I posted those pictures my supper arrived - a Chinese take-away to celebrate the Lunar New Year - Kung Hey Fat Choi.

What I was going to add was that most of the work has been done with contrast paints - the Army Painter ones - hardened leather, blood red and black. I've also made extensive use of the acrylic pens, the white one in particular is very useful for prepping an area, tidying up the white before applying the contrast paints - especially where other colours have intruded.

Another quick up date.

The big guy is done - quite happy with the result, one of the wizards for scale.




Battered markers - for when the unit is suffering, not sufficient to run away but enough to get smacked about by anyone who gets the chance.


Strength Point indicators - shows the player (and his opponent) what strength the unit has left.


A unit of warriors (Heavy Foot) - figured there weren't enough actual men in the Men of the North army.

Very excellent collection Steve!! That Frost Giant is great I love him. I would be all over that if it was 1981.. Sadly my D&D fantasy stuff has been moved on many ages ago.... I had two or three Ral Partha Frost Giants which were top of the line for their time but your fellow looks much better!!

... and a unit of archers. I think I'd like a second unit of these but that will have to wait.


All there is to do now, is the movement trays which are in the post as I write this.

The army, as it is, is ready to go.
I can tweak it some more but I would be quite happy to put it on a table and play with it as it is.
