Trooper from the 1st Dutch Carabiniers

The first French Cuirassier

Both have been pinned into the head and deep set into each body.

To be afixed with apoxy resin around the collar only. Why is that? BB

BB, I am curious as to why you're converting French Carabiniers (series 21) to French Cuirassiers when there is a ready made set of Cuirassiers (series 19) available in almost identical poses.
I'm assuming it is purely for a conversion tutorial.

Hi FredG, curiosity is cool. So are questions.
I am aware of the French Cuirassier set you refer too,but I have been unable to buy those. None at Model Hobbies! None on E Bay.

As for your question, yes I wanted to show my conversions, but want to paint something to get my painting eye in tune, before doing smaller figures.
All my paints are in the kids pocket money priced range.

The conversion game I like to play is one of leap frog. Cutting the French Dragoons, and Carabiniers heads off to make the 1st Dutch Carabiniers meant I could do a straight swop over without having headless body waste! :-D

So a few French earned brand new heads. :-D
I am not doing many though. Perhaps another two. :-D BB

A Call to Arms sell their figures at a very good price, although there is a minimum order, for those hard to find sets.

we cannot accept orders for less than six boxes at a time.

Six boxes will come to:

£28.80 plus 13% postage for the UK

For the rest of Europe please add 15% for postage

Other countries please add 25% for postage

:yeah:

I, too, like to do conversions that result in no net loss of figures. It is an affliction...

My kind of conversion is an exchange of horses. I know, I know, it just has to be done at times ;-)

_FredG, thanks for taking time out to enquire on my behalf. It was very kind of you.

The horses are a bind at no mistake, but they are also just good looking toys. BB

I realised what you were doing here, it's a good way of getting Dutch/ Belgian Carabiniers and you get extra French Cuirassiers as a bonus. Great idea. Too bad they don't do the Dragoons in 1/72 though.

Thank Ye, Graeme, for commenting upon those old Dutch lads that took quite an active part in thrashing the French. Old friends who would have fought once for Old Boney, were now allied on the other side. One head swop and there they appear without epaulettes the 2nd Regiment Dutch & Belgian Karrabiniers.__ we English of course add the C ! A little work to creating the crest needed though. BB

Italert made 1/72 scale Dragoons though Graeme,
that might easily convert to Dutch - Belgian Carabiniers ?

Although these might well be sold in a different box now?
The Revell boxed set are also the same figures.

The Italeri Carabinier set is way too small for sensible swop overs,
I tried converting those many years ago. They looked Naff Ugly! BB

I think that Hagen offers Belgian Carabiniers. I plan to get them for some long time now.
Although I prefer plastic over metal.

I know the Italeri set Paul, but these and the HaT ones do have the older style uniform. That might not be such a big deal, I'm still happy to use them as 1815 french dragoons because the few Zvezda AoT style ones I have cost $10 per box of 3.

I might end up buying the Waterloo 1815 resin Belgians. Those Hagen ones look very nice too.

Oh yes, those too... although I think they switched to metal since resin sabers were so brittle.

EDIT: I was wrong, they're still made in resin.

The resin figures I had went very brittle and fell to pieces. BB
