Work in Progress

New project for 2022.

Posted by Harry Faversham on 17 Dec 2021, 15:12

I've decided to recreate my Plains Wars Collection in 15mm. When my old pal passed away I gave away the vast 20mm Wild West collection we'd built up over the last 40 years. Both of us had been proper Hollywood Wild West nuts, and I couldn't see me playing with the collection with anybody else.
I'm being called to 'go west old man' again, so have to start from scratch.
I'm going to need Monument Valley and assorted scenery for starters. Cavalry fort, Iron Horse, Stagecoach and a fair sized Injun village through the passes in the mountains... how hard can it be?
Add in about 300 mounted and dismounted Horse Soldiers and Cheyenne, a wagon train, settlers, ranchers, cattle drive and wandering Buffalo herd and the job's a good 'un!
I'm plan to chart progress here as I go along.

Sorry to hear about your old Pal, Harry.
Wagons West it is then? A Quest to find good stuff or scratch build?
I will look forwards to seeing any progress on your topic.
i used the Woody Train Set for my wild west efforts. Cheap and cheerful i just pulled the Woody figures off ,and there was my iron horse plus naff wagons and Hornby track and transformer. BB

"And we're off!"

Fort Faversham is completed and ready to receive it's garrison. The Fort has been built to protect the vital 'Faversham Trail' as it traverses the Powder River Country. The trail was blazed by renowned Scout and Indian Fighter, Harry 'Buckshot' Faversham in 1868. Now the Cheyenne are on the Warpath Fort Faversham will be crucial in keeping the trail open for both the Pony Express and the Wagon Train.

Oh, that fort! Played with it until it went to pieces! Very small ones! It was great! And very nice to see again. Thought about buying a reissue early 90s, but it never happened.

Fort Airfix must be lying around here somewhere, just don't know where. And it was uncomplete as far as I remember! ;-)

Great start Harry!

Back in our pokey little seaside resort, from having Crimbo with the lad and his family. Escort home was by three Troops of 15mm Blue Moon 7th Cavalry...
lovely little minis who'll be going under the brush this week.

One question that's already cropped up...
Whose figures mix best with 15mm Blue Moon, Hovels or Peter Pig?

Captain Nathan Brittles:

"You got a breath on you like a hot mince pie!"

Top Sergeant Quincannon:

"Ah, Captain darlin'. As you well know I took the pledge after Chapultepec."

Captain Nathan Brittles:

"And Bull Run, and Gettysburg, and Shiloh, and St. Patrick's Day, and Fourth of July!"

"So here they are: the dog-faced soldiers, the regulars, the fifty-cents-a-day professionals... riding the outposts of a nation. From Fort Faversham to Fort Apache - from Sheridan to Stark - they were all the same: men in dirty-shirt blue and only a cold page in the history books to mark their passing. But wherever they rode - and whatever they fought for - that place became the United States."

Just because the 'Boy General' didn't want 'em, doesn't mean nobody else does... 15mm Gatling Guns!
It's probably me being a div, but I can't seem to find any Gatling Guns and crews suitable for the Old West, can anyone help please?
Project is progressing slowly, despite real life rearing it's ugly head, should have some piccys later today to show.
