Zirrian's Other Scale stuff

Posted by zirrian on 05 Apr 2021, 11:55

While 1:72 is my eternal love, occasionally I build some scale models in other scales and/or paint wargaming figures in 28mm. Let me present you a few, hope you will like them!

I finished this Tamiya Pz II over the Easter weekend. Did only a simple weathering as I usually bog down with the different earth, mud and other effects to not progress with anything for weeks, so not it was only a simple dusting on the lower hull. I will make a vignette for it with some German infantry preparing for attack.

1:48 HobbyBoss Easy Eight with Tamiya commander and loader. I admit this one is not fully finished, but I only added some dust to the track since taking the pic, and need to paint the AA .50cal for the turret, otherwise it's finished. No diorama planned for it, bought the kit many years ago as it was cheap (~13€), but decided to make it finally. I admit that I really like the compact size of 1:48. I wish there were more models for it, as for medium and heavy tanks it's more space-effective than 1:35.

Next up will be a T-60 vignette that is almost done, only the base needs to be painted, the figures and the tank is finished. Hopefully in 1-2 weeks :)

I will add one more thing to this in the future...but my first diorama is 95% done :) I hope this doesn't break the rules of being a gallery topic and not a work in progress topic.

T-60 by Mistercraft (which is a reboxed...not sure who made it originally), not a bad kit, pretty basic, and there's one piece of track short by design...decal is useless, applied something from Zvezda I think. Figures are Hobbyboss, pretty nice ones in my opinion, and as for the first, I think it looks quite nice. Need to add more interesting things to diorama bases in the future tho :)

I think 1:48 is a quite odd scale. Only seen some Japanese aeroplanes in that scale before. And the pilots didn't fit my figures so I let them be. Just as well, my older brother were quite careful with his models. Very nice to see these!

Yeah, it's mostly Tamiya who makes 1:48 stuff...and mostly airplanes. Monogram released a bunch of planes in the scale too, but for AFVs, Tamiya with a somewhat extensive WW2 line, Hobbyboss with Shermans, KVs and T-34s, maybe Esci/Italeri made some, small Asian companies...a shame, it's a handy scale in my opinion. Most of the detail of 1:35 but in a much smaller size.

And thank you very much, I'm not sure what will come next (maybe the fully finished diorama...), I have a built M41 Walker Bulldog, a Pz IV 98% done, an LRDG Chevy in a similar state, some airplanes...

Most probably I will go with the M41 that I intend to paint as a Lebanese vehicle in desert sand color as the original decals of the kit have yellowed badly :(

IMHO, tanks in 1/48 scale are the best. Not too small, not too large as 1/35.

Good job Tamas!
