28mm Garford-Putilov Armoured Lorry

Posted by T. Dürrschmidt on 06 Apr 2021, 16:21

Hello,

this model with it´s unusual shape is a part of my "matchboxlike" collection of 28mm WW1 vehicles, all presented on little pieces of landscape and sometimes figures, like the old Matchbox sets.

Model is by copplestone miniatures, made of resin and some pewter parts. I only added a gunbarrel (lolly stick) and two lenses for the truck lights. I do not have any idea what the slogan means I have painted on the truck. I saw it on a Picture in the net and thought it was cool. Perhaps there are some Russian mates here who can translate.

The vehicle was built by the Russian Putliov company based on a US Truck by Garford. It was armed with three machineguns and a 75mm gun in a 270 degrees rotable turret. The main problem was the poor cross country ability and the fact it had to drive backwards to the enemy to use it´s main gun. The truck was used by Russia and some other nations during and after WW1 (there are also pictures with German Freikorps using this vehicle).

Today we had some snow again, so it was a good background for the pictures.

Cheers from Bavaria

Thomas

Another interesting vehicle from your Bavarian workshop. If you can find the Russian letters you can use deepl.com to translate the word by yourself.

One Diesel scandal vehicle in my garage is enough…..but to be honest we got 4000 EUR from Volkswagen last year as a kind of refund….and we still drive the car….

Perhaps I will upgrade the Touran with some steel plates and paint some Russian propaganda slogans on it. :mrgreen:

I do not have any idea what the slogan means I have painted on the truck.

According to Google translate (via Google Lens), it says GROMOBOJ, or LIGHTNING.

Nice work. I am endlessly fascinated by these home-made, make-do- and-mend armored vehicles that prove that necessity is the mother of invention!

Nice one

Comment on translation
Grom = thunder
Boi = fight or hit
My proposal for a translation: Thunderstrike
