Italeri news 2020 - 2024

Mmm, sadly this efforts by Italeri end up a bit short in my opinion. The box might be very nice, and very tempting, but considering you are only getting a new wooden kit, its not really worth it if you already have the figures and vehicles.

Moreover, the wooden kits laser cut sets are inherently limited, and you can see everywhere the notches. If it was very cheap, I would understand, but you are really being charged about 40 €, for example for the mini Colisseum!

@Chris: in fact in this case you have a complete abbey but also a destroyed one. You can see it in the FB link I added.

@Xantippos (Mike?): The laser cut buildings are from the company Sarissa Prcision Ltd, but also others make these buildings. https://sarissa-precision.com/ Yes it would be nice that everything in the box would be new, but for some of us it is nice to get some of the old Esci figures and in some cases even the Esci tanks and vehicles. As Chris said the building is usefull for many periods. The notches can be hidden by addiing some wood filler. ;-)

This looks like a very impressive model indeed. I wonder what price ticket will be placed on it though....?

Peter, thanks for the link! didn't know they were in collaboration with another brand! btw, my real name is Matt ;) .

But, even more, usually sets are offered for less, as you are buying at the same time many items. If you consider 35 GBP, plus 10 for every set, more or less you have the same price that Italeri charges you. It would be cool if they made a couple of unique figures :P .

Does anyone know the footprint of the abbey? I think it will be a really big model.

Italeri continues to sporadically re-release older Esci kits as well as creating their somewhat popular big playsets.
Recently it has been revealed that we can look forward to another WWII playset for the Battle of Normandy 1944. More precisely, the airborne landings at St. Mère Eglise.
Judging from the box art we can expect at least another return of Esci German Infantry, US Paratroopers, at least one Sd.Kfz. 251 and of course a new kit of the famous church of that village.

Red Buttons was unforgettable in his role on the church. Thanks for the updates.

Found this on FB:

The information that Erich von Manstein gives looks right if you look at the boxart. Maybe, with some luck, there is also a sprue with roadsigns included. (http://plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=345)

Price will be around 65 euro if I have seen it right on the www. ;-)

The Battle Set is supposed to be available as early as this month.

Air Assault on Sainte-Mère-Église June 6th 1944

final box art & content:

Church of Sainte-Mère-Eglise - MDF laser-cut kit ('new')
German Infantry - (re-release Esci 201 / Italeri 6033)
US Paratroopers - (re-release Esci 209 / Italeri 6063)
Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf. C mittlerer Schützenpanzerwagen - fast assembly (re-release Italeri 7516)
Urban Accessories - (re-release Italeri 6146), not the "Battlefield Accessories" Peter presumed

Apart from the church not exactly the most attractive bundle, earlier battle sets offered substantially more.
Nevertheless, potentially interesting for wargamers, collectors, beginners & even diorama-builders. If it should ever be available for 50,- Euros or less, one might grab it. ;-)
