Kübelwagen under repair is finished

Posted by JurgenH on 14 Mar 2026, 21:50

Hi everyone,
Tonight I finished building the diorama for my Kübelwagen. I built the toolbox and the tools from scratch. The tarps used to be a nylon stocking
that belonged to my wife. I hope you like my little project.

My next model will be even smaller.
Here’s a picture of the box.

Those in the know will recognize what this is. A real rarity. A few weeks ago, I was able to buy a set for my friend for 16 Euro. In a store, not online.

Wow, a very nice, lively and creative little scene, Jürgen! Well done. I like the toolbox and the sidewindows very much.
It's a pity your wife now has cold legs to enable your work. She must really love you. I hope for her spring is coming soon.
And indeed these Preiser sets are very good, very rare and as a result very expensive. It's a real pity the did not continue these. I don't know why.

Whilst the vehicle is lovely, I am particularly impressed with the tool box and kit.

I was wondering if there is a reason why these gentlemen are in blue overalls, not field grey?

Best wishes,

Chris

I agree with huib and Chris, Jürgen. Although everything in the diorama is brilliant (the vehicle, the figures, the setting, etc.), I love the toolbox and its contents, especially considering you’ve made it all from scratch.

Another great work!

Santi.

Thank you very much for your kind comments.
Chris: The blue is a fairly dark blue overall.
I was a soldier in a maintenance unit myself. My trained profession is automotive mechanic. I wore these overalls (slang: “blue overalls”) myself during my time in the service.
I’m sometimes amazed at how much has been carried over from the past.
Imagine having to stand at attention in front of the sergeant with oil stains on your uniform. That’s where a “blue man” makes sense, since it can be dry-cleaned.
Thanks again for your positive feedback on the vignette.
Just a heads-up: this project will take longer. I plan to catalog all the molds first. There are about 100 of them. Sometimes they’re labeled, sometimes not, or poorly described.
I’m specifically looking for the casts of the Preiser figures in sliding positions. I might even have to make new casts.
Jürgen
