I'm rather excited by the Napoleon movie & painted these - the only unpainted Napoleonic figures I had.

A very fine troop of fellows, and horses with short tails correctly shown too i might well add. Movies can be great to spur keener interest in artest authors that's for sure. Keep dipping your brushes in the colourful paints please.
:coffee: British Hussars were the first Napoleonics i ever attempted to paint over 60 years ago. Of course back in the day, they all toppled over with the weight of the paint i put upon them.BB

Yep a very nice unit here Donald. Lovely uniforms indeed. Brown busbies with crimson bags - a painter’s dream! Am not familiar with Newline’s 20mm range but one or two of the poses do remind me of the Airfix versions from the 1960s.

Surely the British Hussars deserve better 1/72 versions than those classics Airfix offered us, that BB is referring to, all those decades ago. In truth BB it wasn’t your heavy load of paint that prevented your figures from remaining upright. Actually, it was the extremely dodgy pins in their horses hooves that needed to be placed in misshapen bases that didn’t provide the correct counterbalance that was needed! Which was a shame cos the riders were terrific!

Thanks, gentlemen.

I, too, had the Airfix British hussar set in childhood. Mine were evidently painted with an 8" house painting brush.

However, a few years ago, I stripped them, changed heads (for a taller busby), found a set of HaT horses & re-purposed them as Austrian SYW hussars.

I agree that they're stocky but nice figures though, as KB writes, the original horses are a nightmare (pun intended).

Those hussars were really useful, despite their size, for converting to Guard Chasseurs a Cheval , French horse artillery etc a very long time ago when there were no alternatives around.

The horse positions were bonkers but they still had a dash.

Mr O did a good job converting them for the SYW games.

Best wishes,

Chris

I still have to paint all the British Hussars I have at home. But I already have a ticket for Napoleon tomorrow.

Love the uniforms, Donald! I'm hoping the Napoleon movie turns out just as well!

Well done donald, a fine unit of British Hussars using the Newline figures.

I agree k.b. It is a very very long time since the Airfix British Hussars came out and it is surprising perhaps that none of the other 'big' manufacturers have made a better set, especially a few years ago when there was still a steady stream of new sets coming into the hobby. With a lack of new sets in present circumstances it does look as if conversion or use of metals is the only option for those of us wishing to create convincing British hussars units.

Tragically true.

I'm almost reconciled to the idea that sets on my "wish list' such as SYW French hussars or an entire army of Russian SYW figures in 1/72 will never be realised.

I do keep an eye on 3d printed files on the internet but seen nothing or nothing that impresses me.
Maybe someone has done British Napoleonic hussars?
