Greetings from an old member who comes back with armies

Posted by chen on 18 May 2023, 15:12

Dear gents,

I'm so glad to come back amongst the familiar and new members of this forum, after quite some years' absence. I'd like to thank my French friend Guilhem, for his efforts of re-establishing contact with me and calling me back here.
It seems that my latest post dates back to 2017, so wow... how time flies! But I've always been a faithful 20mm modeller and I started to wargame more and more now. So, long time no see, my friends.

As greetings I'd like to share with you some of the finished stuff of my running project 'Leipzig 1813'. It's in fact a wargame project concentrated only on the northern sector of Leipzig (due to the limited productivity of me and our local club), mainly around Moercken. The idea behind is to make an intensive effort to build up armies for further gaming of my beloved Napoleonic period. Here are some of the progress so far.

The figures used are of a variety of brands, including 3d printed products.

Then the Prussians

And some Russians

I'd like to point out that the flag was handpainted during the most serious lockdown period in 2020 when the Covid just broke out. I didn't have a printer in my home so handpainting was the only option. But I'm quite happy with the result. All the other flags in this post are printed.

That's what I've done so far, and the project is in progress until this autumn. Hope you like it.

Best regards from China,
chen

One would be hard pressed to find figures painted as good as your Chen. Absolutely stunning work.

Welcome back Chen……. greatly missed seeing your work here. Am delighted to see you back and that your miniatures are as beautifully painted as ever.
My personal favourites here are your French Voltiguers, the Prussian Artillery and those 3 Russian Dragoons which are absolutely splendid.

I am also happy to see you back again here in the forum. Your painted figures are amazing and the composition of different brands works perfectly, I would say. Please let us see more of your work here.

What an excellent painter you are!
Always nice to see Napoleonics on this forum and certainly when they are as beautiful as yours. Don't know which of them I like the most....
Thanks for sharing and keep them coming.

Okay, so if going away for 5 years is what it takes to share painting like this, I can wait! Some of the best 1/72 painting I have ever seen. Your hand-painted flag is fantastic!
Welcome back to the forum - hope to see more!

It's all very kind of you, mates.
To my personal taste I always find it great fun to mix difference brands in the ranks of one unit. Different sculpting styles make you think of different 'charactors' of individuals.

Oh here are 2 HQ bases I've missed to upload.

The Corps-level HQ is supposed to be Marshal Marmont.

And a general de division.

Those command figures (both mounted and on foot, specially Marshal Marmont) are superbly painted, chen, they are a delight for the eyes.

These are really well painted armies. You did a good job with those flags. And it's especially a joy to see those figures because I have painted a lot of these myself. Motivates me a lot to start with a Russian army next.

Mixing the brands works well in this case. I like this like you do. But it is not always possible.
