Dutch Horse Artillery

The horse artillery finish off my Dutch brigade in Laval's 2nd German Division, needed for one of our Talavera games. Most of these guys started out as Italeri French Guard artillery with some head swaps and tall plumes added. Their hussar style uniforms made them a good departure point for the Dutch horse artillery in Spain 1809.

Looking good Bill. They remind me of French Marins those snappy boys. They make a very nice addition to your Spanish army of occupation. Any French army post 1806 must have some allied state forces to be authentic be they Dutch, Swiss, Italian, Polish or German often being among the steadiest units in the army.

I think that is a fair thing to say. I mean, most of the nations, outside of the Spanish and Portuguese, were fighting elsewhere at the same time and as a result many have been covered by various manufacturers. Not the Dutch horse artillery for 1809 as far as I know, but I confess I didn’t look too far. I really am making an attempt to use what I have in the cupboard!

Concerning the figs for the Peninsular War: You should have a close look at Black Watch Miniatures and Hagen Miniatures. There should be some more exotic stuff.

This is a fine-looking artillery unit, and just what is required to bolster the Dutch infantry that you have already shown us. Very fine conversions and fine painting!

I also like the photography very much, the brooding dark background and lighting giving the impression of a storm to come. All very atmospheric.

Not in the near future! I still have a cupboard full of figures to paint and a number of units I want to do. Although Talavera is very close to being done…

I'm late in this thread again but you've made another nice addition to your peninsular army, Bill. Dutch troops are often ignored, except for the "red lancers".
I hope there will be more to follow and I 'm also curious to see the whole of all those different Britisch and Spanish troops on one side and the French army with all its allies on the other side. That promises to be a colorful spectacle.
