Isildur's last stand

Posted by Susofrick on 02 Mar 2023, 08:59

... or the catastrophe at the Gladden Fields. Finished! In my eyes at least. Not too true to Tolkien with his over-human Numenoreans and their battle tactics. In my version Isildur's troops become separated. The cavalry in the front is a bit too much interested in hunting orcs, classic trap from the orcs. The rear guard has lagged a little behind and that leaves the command isolated when the orcs annihilate the rear guard. The command has little help from their four elven archers, but the orcs are too many. Even for them. So I took some freedom and I haven't tried to hide the bases (but I have painted them in the right colour at least :-D ). In Tolkien's version there are three survivors. I have five that ry to sneak from the battle, don't know if they are among the survivors though. Pics taken in the guest room (on the hobby table) late yesterday evening.

Now it's over to something else.

Just about how I pictured it when I read the original passage--good show!

A very colorful version of this imaginative incident. Most of all the orcs had the chance to be a little more stylish and not only black and grey or green. Another iconic work from your painting workshop.
