Greek Mythology: A Cyclops

Posted by PhilC on 14 Nov 2022, 22:39

Good evening everyone!

Among my too many projects, I'm building some sort of HOTT armies (Fantasy version of DBA) based on various mythologies from all around the world. The following armies are being painted:
- Mythologic Viking army (the paint is complete, I have to base them)
- Mythologic Ancient Egyptian army (half way, you might remember the Anubite I displayed last time)
- Mythologic Maya army (only a few warriors painted, but I have found the minis to represent Feathered Serpent warriors :-D )
- Mythologic Indian army (only a project)
- Mythologic Japanese army (only the beginning of a project)
- Mythologic Greek army

For this last one, I already have some hoplites, Centaurs, Amazons (these latter might become another army), a Hydra, and a few weeks ago, I painted a Cyclops which will be played as a Monster.

Here you are:

Compared to a hoplite, he really looks huge:

What do you think if him ? A few more pictures and text here: https://philotepsfigures.blogspot.com/2022/11/cyclops.html

Looks great! Bold colors that pop off my screen, as usual.

I like Polyphem very much. Clean work.
You made the wood of the mace good.
The Hoplite also looks very good.
I look forward to the rest.

Superb painting and may I say I have never seen better skin tones? That is perfection in color to my eye.

Great paintjob on this cyclops, Phil. I love the different wood, fur and hair textures, as well as the skin tones.

As others have already mentioned your flesh tone is tremendous. What paints do you use Phil?

Looking at the Cyclops I can't help but remember Jason and the Argonauts......oh those were the days!

Dear Phil, the painting of these two mythological figurines looks wonderfull. It is not possible for me te see if this is your highlightpainting style or the lightfall on a plain skin paint. But it looks excellent. My compliments.

Hi Mr Cryns, I think you will have to trust me on this one
That said, you're right about the pictures, the light on the scene was not good, so it is not easy to tell. This Cyclops is meant to be a Monster element in a HOTT Mythological Greek army, I will try to take better pictures when the army is complete - I will not promise that it is for 2023.
