Landsknechte and Doppelsöldner

Posted by dombom on 17 Oct 2022, 09:01

The Landsknechte were very disciplined mercenaries in the end of the 15th and during the 16th century. Their peak of success might have been around 1525, where they were able to beat a french army consisting of french soldiers and the famous swiss pikeman in the battle of Pavia.

As reference I used this picture:

And the final result:

I might add the water running out of the wells lions mouth, but I'm not sure yet, how to do it. Any ideas are appreciated

These are very nice! Which figures are these?

For the water, I would cut a thin sliver of clear film and place one end in the spout, the other in the pool. you can curve it if you wish or just have it falling straight down. Next get some acrylic medium and coat the plastic strip - it dries clear and the plastic disappears.

The figures are from two sets of the very rare Kingsfigurines Landsknechte.
I think they are not available anymore, since kingsfigurines stopped producing 1/72 scale figures.
You might be lucky and find them somewhere, but it won't be easy I guess. I don't think they produced many of them, which is a shame, because they are wonderfully sculptured with plenty of details.

To be honest, I'm not sure which brand the base is. I bought it on AliExpress at GYKZ Olivia Store. It didn't specify any brand and came just in a plastic bag.
I think it was designed for WW2 with street signs etc, so I did some modifications such as removing the signs and adding the well to make it fit the 16th century.

A really good diorama, and excellent painting of these figures. It is a great shame if the figures themselves are no longer available.

Landsknechte provide so much colour and variety, and although I might suggest that they were not always 'highly disciplined', they certainly made their mark on European battlefields in the C16th.

Great work, well done!

I thought I recognized these figures from somewhere. Michel from Kingsfigurines have been a member here and I have him on Facebook. Very nice figures and a very nice scene!

So you can ask him if he still has this figures somewhere or can make some more?
I have seen other figures from Kingsfigurines in 1/72, but couldn't get a hand on it.

Very nice indeed.

Lovely painting and a nice composition of these colourful warriors.

That water fountain is particularly good. A great tip from Steve.

Best wishes,

Chris

Oops! He isn't there any more. So the best way to go is probably through their homepage https://www.kingsfigurines.com/en

Hmmm, no way to contact them other than subscribing to their newletter or becoming a customer? Not that good. Quite cool figures! Even if wrong scale.

Yeah, that's the problem, the figures are in wrong scale. We need more 1:72 :D
I have seen one of their old Landsknechte products, with very nice figures, but couldn't get hands on it. Don't know what else they had before and what I missed. But I'm not going to do another Landsknechte dioroma any soon, there is still too much else on my list (romans, greek, native americans, more WW2... enough for a life time)
