Really nice paint job on some great figures. The thing I like about Massimo’s figures, especially the horses, is the hand-sculpted feel to them, a bit rough but full of character. Thanks for sharing these.

Fantastic sculpted and painted figures!

I assume that these are for the new diorama of Patrick's, "diorama Fröschweiler 1870"?

Must say there are few sculptors out there, in any scale, who manage to animate figures as well as Massimo. These sculpts are as splendid as anything he’s done.
Your painting Roland complements them extremely well, your brushwork is tremendous. What I particularly love about these cavalry figures is how you have skilfully added the horse reins. They really are as good as any 1/72 or even 28mm reins I’ve ever seen and of course the way Massimo sculpts his horses without any reins, although looking a bit strange when purchased, are brought to a level of realism we can’t find anywhere else (that I know of) when the horse’s reins are added.
Would love to know what material you use for them and what glue you use.
Well done Roland! Thanks for posting……

Ps/ Can’t wait to see them added to the magnificent Franco- Prussian diorama that Wolfgang and team are putting the finishing touches to.

Thank your for the good words. Applying reins ist no whitchwork. I drill a 0,8mm hole and use very fine twine (this is the clue: not yarn, but twine). Acrylic glue and matte varnish to stabilize the yarn). The rest is patience and a high level frustration tolerance. Image

Wow Roland! Thank you ever so much for not only explaining, but actually showing us, how you go about adding the reins to your horses. It’s clear for all to see that it is a tricky process that undoubtedly took lots of practice before you reached the finished quality shown in your photos.
Well done….. and thank you kindly!

Masterly painted with your distinctive painting style, Roland. I like it very much.

I purchased some of Massimos Bavarians and Turcos for 1870/71. This is additional motivation to start painting this project.
