Zvezda Russian Guard Artillery

Posted by Bendy_Straw on 30 Mar 2021, 16:18

This will be the first gallery post of many more to come, with every part being French and Russian troops, with the purpose of using them to create the fighting in the fleches, in the center of the battle of Borodino. It will be done based on the board game: Battles of Napoleon. For this reason each artillery piece consists of 4 figures. Here, there are 3 gunners and 1 NCO for each gun, and I also painted the officer. This was also the first time I stepped up my basing, and I gotta say I am amazed at the difference it makes. It's as if half a figure's beauty is a good base, and it's also really easy and quick to make. Although I kinda blundered with the poses I chose, cause by making the bases, now the gunmen that are posed to move the gun... simply can't reach it, which looks a bit weird. Here are some pics I hope you enjoy.

I like your Russian guard artillery figures. Good balance of just the right amount of detail to achieve a convincing look without being too fussy.

Thank you. This is very flattering since I'm not that good at details, but I've certainly improved much over the years. Those golden and red stripes on the collar and the cuffs were a REAL pain in the butt, and they still didn't turn out good enough.

Very nice work indeed.

The bases look good as you say.

A light wash will bring those wonderful Zvezda faces to life as a suggestion.

Do not forget, less is more though.

Well done.

Best wishes,

Chris

I like the gun the most. They look perfect to me!

And yes the figures need a bit more shading! ;-)
