Some Ancients and Ashigaru

Posted by ToneTW on 29 Mar 2021, 10:48

Hello fellow hobbyists it's been a while, I hope you are all getting through the pandemic and this post finds you all well? It has been a tough one and a challenge coping with work and childcare and haven't been able to visit here as often as I like! As I type I am assailed by a toddler!

So just a few highlights I've been painting, a lot since these has just been part of a rebasing effort. These are my usual Newline Designs Ancients but I also had a break at one point to paint some Redbox Ashigaru:

I'm hoping between things settling down, moving to a new place, getting settled again and nursery starting we will have a bit more time for much needed leisure!

I have been struggling to get my Ashigaru to look right. I may study your pictures next time I give them a go.

And I certainly empathize with the toddler thing. It seems that, once I am seated at my painting table, paint is out and mixed, I pick up my brush and tgen hear "DAAAAAAAAAAADDY" called out from somewhere else in the house.

Ah well. They are only young once, I hear.

Thanks guys!

I am fortunate that my little one is a good sleeper so I do often get time to get painting done at least on the night times but other times its a no go! :-)

For the Ashigaru it was all a bit experimental, I am still not sure the best way to proceed with them. I found vallejo gloss black and various grey highlights the best along with either a satin varnish I need a lot more practice with black!

It is always a pleasure to see your ancient figs.
And for the Ashigarus, that might be a little help and inspiration.

Thanks again chaps, yes Konrad those ashigarus of yours were an inspiration to get 1/72 Samurais! Although I didn't end up with the Samurai command set.

They look very impressive, my favourite are the late Galatians.
