Dad's Army...

An inquiry on the Lead Adventure Forum as to which diecast vehicles would work best with 28mm figures, led to this!
I finished up with both the Liedo and Corgi Dad's Army trucks. Contrary to, much appreciated information, I've plumped for the Corgi models. Too big, yes, but the Lledo's look a tad too small, in my 'umble opinion. Jonesy's battlewagon could carry the entire Platoon, that's wot swung it. That, and the fact some of 1st Corps cartoony looking figures will be finding their way into Walmington-on-Sea!

Got the same figures in stock, but because of bad painting skills never started.
Love Mr. Jones his van as well, don't got hat one, still on my wishlist.

Very appropriate indeed . There are good wealth of classic trucks, in various scales ranging from 1/43 to 1/72, many times basically impossible to judge their actual size if you don't buy them!

So, who produces these Dads army figures? would they be by any stretch of imagination compatible with 1/72 scale?

Sadly not, they're produced by 'Warlord Games', in 28mm scale.

The figures certainly capture some of the character of the famous BBC TV series characters, not an easy thing to do in such a small scale.

Amongst the civvie characters, Mainwaring in his bank manager suit stands out, as does the Butcher Jack Jones (Corporal Jones). Private Pike (in his famous scarf that his Mum always made him wear), does look more aggressive with his Cricket bat than he ever did in the original TV series.

Great stuff, let's see some more!

Really nice! The family sat glued to the TV when this was on. Well, there was only two channels so A LOT was seen. But this was really good! Would have been fun if you could have stuck a Remco in among them!

The Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard Platoon have been hard at it. Captain Mainwaring having assured his lads, that once completed and fortified, the Novelty Rock Emporium would be equal to anything in the Siegfried Line! Lance Corporal Jones' Section were busy camouflaging the Emporium's roof when a Parachutist alarm was sounded. Downing brushes the Section sallied fourth, bayonets fixed to their P14s.
Lance Corporal Jones draws first blood, capturing a very dodgy looking Nun in gleaming Jackboots!

Dad's Army isn't part of my heritage, but these figures and associated flotsam are great. Wonderful paint jobs, love the half-camouflaged Novelty Rock Emporium. Is that scratch built? It's fantastic.

his genius for strategy, tactics and field-craft, immediately identifying the building's importance in the defence of Walmington-on-Sea!

If there is anyone who will get things done, it is Captain G Mainwaring...his promotion to Colonel is surely overdue!

As for union-jack adorned metal object/pillbox/dalek? Well, that should give the panzers a thing or two to think about. That 'ray gun' has an armour-piercing capability quite sufficient to disable any armoured vehicle of 1940 vintage.

19 Squadron was the first squadron in the RAF to operate the Supermarine Spitfire on 4 August 1938. Young Frank was operational months before that, courtesy of his Uncle Arthur's wood working skills.

To be fair, this could have been any one of us in the mid sixties!
