General Wargaming

In training

I've got a big battle Late Antiquity game scheduled for Saturday.

And I'm in training.

No, I'm not obsessed with winning but if I have time, I like to set up some drills pre-game to refresh myself with the rules (in this case our own "Tribute of Spears").

I can also try out some tactics so things go smoothly. For instance, in these rules, skirmish cavalry can move & shoot in the same turn. It's good to get your intervals correct because if you don't, you may get caught in the pursuit.

Do others run such drills?

Yes, I go on manoeuvres all the time!
Two reasons, first you can sort yer Army out so as to not wind up in a giant traffic jam upon the stern Fields of Mars. Second you get time to just sit, look and enjoy the toys, without an opponent jumping up and down wanting his turn to go!

I have so many rules that I would like to learn, but not the patient at the moment. I would like to play Black Powder, but did not managed. So I would be glad if I reach a level that I can start maneuvers to train my troops...

I yell at them in the old good way when we had to give drill, but they don't move an inch! 8)

No wargaming or training for me! I watch! ;-)
