General Wargaming

First DBA in 2021

Posted by MABO on 07 Jan 2021, 14:50

Mr.Andrea and me meet for a DBA afternoon playing IV,61 Italian Condotta 1320AD-1495AD vs. IV,79 Later Swiss 1400AD-1522AD.

Image

I took for granted that taktical ideas were unabled due to my unlucky dice. But this time I was a lucky Condotta. My idea was to keep the swiss flanks occupied and prevent the construction of a solid wall of pikes. So my cavalry provoke the Swiss command to turn to my right and my blades blocked the left hill.

Image

Then after some moves and no real action I moved forward with my small pike section and some Crossbowmen to attack the Swiss general. To support my main attack I turned away with my knights and try to bring them in the center.

Image

Normally this was the time when everything went wrong with my dice and Mr.Andrea is going to win. But this time he could not kill my knights with his artillery and I can continue with my attack at his center.

Image

Finally I killed one pike with my crossbowmen and destroy his two other units inkl. his general with my pikes and knights. Victory!

Image

I also tried to destroy his artillery but that failed. On the other hand my head-on attack did not result in the dead of my general.

Was a funny afternoon and something different, because normally I am the designated looser.

A Swiss debacle! Not even the honour was saved.
Thanks for the hint on the ring trick, Wiking! I'll need it next time.

Very nice report, and very nice armies too! I've begun to paint some Swiss pikemen, using Miniart figures, I think they're the ones used in your Swiss army (together with Redbox). Not that easy to glue the pikes, so I only painted 4 of them so far.
