Covenanter artillery

Posted by Ochoin on 03 Sep 2020, 10:24

English Civil War artillery isn't the most effective battlefield weapon. I began with 2 sakers (medium artillery) when I started my Covenanter army. Pretty useless. I added one more. Marginally useless. I've now added a fourth (& last: 4 is the BG maximum).

I have no great hopes for this battery. It fires slowly & inaccurately (in line with historical precedent). It moves slowly & once unlimbered, does not move again during the battle. .......but it looks good! And for me, that is what my "easy beat" Covenanter army is all about.

They look superb, a proper hive of activity, serving the guns.

They look great ,and one could hid behind the smoke other cutting edge units.
However i guess war gaming has no rules of play upon that subject? Or do they?
Thanks for posting from down under,Donald. BB

Thank you for your kind comments.

There are wargaming rules for everything! It depends on which set you use & how much complexity you want.

Battlefield smoke (an issue up to modern warfare) is usually factored in the tables that give range & accuracy so its an abstract part of the game.

In our WW2 gaming, however, various ordinances can choose to create a smoke screen. We use cotton wool & it has saved many a plastic or metal soldier.
