Today is the anniversary of the attack on the belgian fortress Eben Emael. It was the first gliderborne assault in World history.
Pictures from the fortress that is now a museum.

Hi Koppi.

A really nice report on this fascinating and unique operation.

I remember reading about this when I was a child and how the team overcame the many problems as the operation evolved, stunning the world with its novelty and importance.

We are not responsible for the sins of our fathers and cruelty abounds in all conflicts.

Nevertheless, generally speaking ,their are very few war criminals on the winning side.

Keep up the good work.

Best wishes,

Chris

I remember reading about this in the book Fallschirmjager, hunters from the sky. Textbook successful operation using dummy forts to rehearse the attack so every paratrooper knew their job. The speed of their capture caught the BEF and French on the wrong foot as they were assuming it might hold up the German army at least a couple days. neat photos.
