OK, here you go!

Paintjob
I unboxed the airbrush again.

Image
Dark grey primer.

Image
Dunkelgelb (dark yellow) as a base colour.

Image
Then I shifted to the hairy stick and made a three colour camouflage pattern inspired by late 1944/early 1945 factory finish patterns.

Image
And all details painted.
Now on with the decals and the weathering.

Decals and weathering
Time for a gloss varnish and decals.

Image
I am shopping between the decal sheets of Revell and Matchbox, creating a reconaissance car of the Panzeraufklärungs-Lehr-Abteilung 130 (Panzer Lehr division) on the Westfront, early 1945.

Image
Decals in position.

Image
As I want a dirty and battle worn vehicle I started with a prominent dark yellow filter, fading the colours and creating a dirty look.

Image
After that a pointwash of dark brown oil paint, and several dry brushes with light tan colours, to suggest more visual depth and a lively appearance. I finished with a matt varnish and a bit of chipping using a pencil.

Image
And lots of dirt and mud on the bottom.

Now on for the nine wheels!

Thank you, MABO!

Wheels
Only nine of them, including the sparewheel.

Image
Tyres and hubs airbrushed on the sprue.

Image
Assembled and the paint touched up.

Image
Weathered.

Image
Installed on the vehicle with a bit of steering in for a more lively appearance.

Image
On its own legs.
Now on for the last details.

As always I'm enjoying this very much!

Looking forward to the next steps and vehicles.

Pity this one wasn't reissued by Revell. I know wrong number (232) but it would have be nice in this series.

Hello Peter.
It is indeed the correct number 232. It only comes with the addition of “6 wheels or 8 wheels” when using the 8-wheel vehicle. The addition disappeared again after all 6 wheels were removed from military use.

The last details
Only a few parts to add and then the model is ready.

Image
The sparewheel got an improvised back to secure good fit to the vehicle.

Image
The turretcage was painted and received a dark brown wash and some drybrushing.

Image
And two antennas were made from iron and copper wire.

Image
All parts installed.

Image
Now only the Matchbox vignet needs to be done.

That SdKfz 234 looks fantastic, huib, with its perfectly executed camouflage and weathering, and full of little details. Once the base is finished and the vehicle is in place, the result will be great. I suppose there will also be some figures to accompany it.

Yes, there will, Santi!

Diorama base
A nice habit with the old Matchbox kits is the included diorama base. Though it pays to enliven them a bit.

Image
Some debris was added.

Image
Dark grey primer.

Image
Basic colours.

Image
After a lot of filters, washes and drybrushes.

Image
The Matchbox lamp post, next to a piece of transparant sprue, that i will use to make a new lantern.

Image
New lantern attached.

Image
Painted and weathered.

Image
Diorama base with street light.
Now two figures will be added.

It’s fascinating to compare the initial state of the base with its final state: the result is amazing.

Great progress, huib!

Thanks a lot, Santi!

Two figures
The last update.

Image
The three Matchbox figures included with the kit have unnatural poses (so-called "flat figures"). Moreover, the uniforms and knee-high boots are typical for the early war period, while the vehicle is a a late war vehicle. Reason to select some other figures to enliven this small scene.

Image
I choose for two German tankers from Caesar Miniatures in winter gear. Only the scale is 1/72 so they are a bit large for the vehicle in 1/76.

Image
After painting and weathering. (I forgot to make a picture halfway.) They are wearing wintergarment wearable on two sides: One side is white for snow the other in a camouflage pattern for non snow environment.

Image
I tried to paint the much used Splittermuster camouflage pattern. Not very well succeeded in this scale, but at first glance there is some similarity.

Image
Finished! Final pictures soon.

The finished diorama looks brilliant, huib. I’ll wait to see the full picture collection in the ‘Gallery’ section so I can enjoy it more. ;-)

In my humble opinion, I think you made a great choice swapping the original Matchbox figures for those fantastic Caesar ones – on which you’ve done an amazing paintjob, by the way.

Number three:

Schwere Panzerspähwagen 7,5cm PAK 8-Rad SdKfz 234/4
The SdKfz 234/4 was the last official variant of the SdKfz 234 series. Towards the end of the war the Germans battled against an ever increasing amount of allied, especially Soviet, tanks. The classic towed anti-tank guns were often overrun as they could not be hooked to their tractors in time and were lost in considerable numbers. As a result the German army decided to equip as many more or less suitable vehicles with heavy anti-tank guns as possible, to create a more mobile anti-tank force. Among others 7,5cm PAK 40 anti-tank guns were placed on the SdKfz 251, the Raupenschlepper Ost and the sdKfz 234. From December 1944 on SdKfz 234 production was fully changed to the SdKfz 234/4 model.

The powerful 7,5cm PAK 40 anti-tankgun was in fact too heavy for the SdKfz 234. Especially when firing the suspension was overburdened. To prevent overturning of the vehicle traverse was limited to 20 degrees to both sides. Although heavily armed the SdKfz was lightly armoured and not a suitable combat vehicle. In fact the SdKfz 234/4 was one of many desperate emergency solutions at the end of the war. From December 1944 towards March 1945 only 89 of these vehicles wre built, making it a rather rare vehicle. Only a handful of photographs are known. But at least two vehicles survived the war and are now in museum collections.
