Work in Progress

And now for something completely different. ECW

Posted by PaulRPetri on 24 Jan 2025, 16:51

So my Battle of Five Armies project has suddenly stopped. Motivation has left me... It will return. So in December at our big X-Mas war-game party one of the fellows gave me back a big box of ECW figures both painted and unpainted that I had thrust upon him about 2 years ago. My morale collapsed on that project and I just shoved them off on him. He said have them back he didn't need them any more! Imagine that!

Box of unpainted troops.

Suddenly seized by unexpected motivation I popped off all the painted figures from their individual metal bases and I started rebasing, a horrible task, and painting. This sudden burst of painting inspiration is due in part as I have a rule set that works for them, ARMATI which came out in the mid 1990's.

So here is the start of the photo's of the stuff I have completed.
Donald you have inspired me!!

More to follow I have to set up some more painted troops in my photo studio!

Thanks for looking.

I love those figures. Funnily enough I just found mine. I needed them for the Musketeers vs Cthulhu game but they were off somewhere and I ran a trial version without them I found them on Sunday looking for something else (as you do) so I'll dig them out and set them up for some pictures.

And of course we'll replay the Cthulhu as I planned it.

Okay here are a few shots of my Royalist foot with no command bases completed yet. Just got some flags, more on the way. Lots of converting to make standard bearers!

On the modeling front this fellow appeared out of the blue just before I restarted my ECW project. I think his online mag has been around since the mid 90's but I could be mistaken.

If it's any consolation, Paul, like you, I often lose inspiration halfway through a project, abandon it, and quickly start another one that has inspired me.

You can tell that you've taken on this new project with enthusiasm. Those ECW cavalry and infantry troops look amazing, and the elaborate bases make them even better.

Very nicely painted, impressive army, and nice groundwork*, too!

*I think I have the same set of flowers and I have used them in my own projects. I don't recall the manufacturer, but I recognize the colors - and this is really funny, I think, because I have just posted photos of my Tibur project where I have used the violet variant, which is the one out of four different colors not present in your work...

I also switch between different projects, ideas and models. I think it is very good, that we are free to do so in the hobby!
