Valdemar medieval archers

Posted by atalante on 10 Nov 2022, 22:19

Hi all !

Another thumbnail to come. The figurines advance, the sets will follow. I think I'm going to go on the wall! I made the strings of the bows with very fine copper wire. I find it works quite well. The figs are valdemar, my favorite brand, and the standard bearer, modified zvezda.

They look good! And nice solution for the bowstrings.

I use (long) hair from my daughter in law for bowstrings! :-D

Good work with the bowstrings. Tricky business as I recently discovered while trying to add reins.

I like those bowmen.
I use EZ Line for the strings.

They are actually sold to model railroader to string telephone and power wires but I had them leftover and they seem to be good enough for bowstrings. Some of the advantage of this elastic string: It glues well with CA glue. It does not get bridle even exposed for years to the sunlight and I never had any of them snap on me and I have been using them for almost 20 years.
It is a pain to loop it and attach to the bow or crossbow and sometimes it ends up not quite right, as seen in my photo. Once attached with glue, you can pull it back if needed and fix it with another dot of CA glue.

The Company can be found here and in the USA it is even sold at Amazon.

Doesn't she get upset when you pull hair from her head???

Really cool to see some Valdemar. Pity he stopped this line of figures. And good work on the strings! I use an old brush (it doesn't scream when I pull the hair).
