Waterloo Cavalry and Square

Posted by Captain Sibourne on 31 Oct 2022, 20:17

I've completed by square of the 73rd and 30th which means that I'm now three quarters of the way through the Allied squares. This means I can turn to the Cuirassiers, of whom there are now 3,200 in eight regiments.

Here are a few pictures to show progress:

There are more Cuirassiers to come and the Carabiniers, Dragoons and Guard cavalry.

Another visual feast for the eyes from the good General.

The project has evolved massively over the years and the contributors have ensured that what was once a slightly bonkers proposition has become a reality.

The painting standards are excellent and the idea of three thousand plus cuirassiers alone is mind boggling.

Epic stuff indeed.

Best wishes,

Chris

I'd swear I've seen some of these blokes before. Lovely to see the entire mass grouped this way. Does this roughly account for 1/3 of the cavalry in the charge? Glorious - yes there's the adjective I was looking for. Thanks for the preview of coming attractions, the final product is almost beyond imagining and will be quite stunning in person.
Cheers,

Wowsers. I wonder what the size of the floorspace required will be to have all squares and cavalry out together...bigger than my kitchen table I'm guessing...!

Many thanks all, and yes, Bessiere, you are responsible for a very important part of what is visible. The next section of the Waterloo diorama will be 6.6m wide by 9.1m long. I laid out the provisional dimensions in my garden in the summer during that heat wave. The squares can be seen to give perspective, but without the cavalry:

Yes, it is what appears to be a 'good size' Rich. Lots of mowing required but undoubtedly useful when it comes to laying out Napoleonic battlefields. My own garden would probably accommodate the Waterloo sector around Hougoumont, but not much more... :-D

  That is just so impressive! I've no words for it.
What a sight it must have been, being part of a square and feeling the earth tremble beneath you as that mass of cuirassiers storms towards you....
Thank you for sharing this huge project with us.
