Perhaps you can remember my first try with a 1/72 car last year. It was an armored vehicle of the Spanish Guardia Civil, a conversion from a Cararama Hummer. I felt very happy with the final result.
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=23944&p=262053&hilit=My+first+1%2F72+car#p262053But afterwards I wanted to experiment more with the making and application of decals, so I have recently made a second attempt.
The election of the car to be reproduced was the fist of all. I needed one which carries many decals and that could be used in a possible future diorama. I selected several of them (police, taxi, etc.), but finally decided for an armored truck of those usually used to carry safely money.
Without the intention of advertising trademarks, this was the chosen model, from the Prosegur company.
The following step was the selection of an appropriate model car to be converted, a not easy task. Finally I could find this armored truck from Hot Wheels:
Next I disassembled the car into its basic components:
I was lucky that the car body (red component) was made of plastic, so I was able to work on it to open the driver's and rear doors, and remove from the surface all the little raised dots (rivets?), but with a lot of effort. I didn't like the original wheels at all, so I discarted them. I also worked on the yellow inner component, removing the unnecessary parts.
Once all the elements were to my liking, I glued them together, added the rear view mirrors made from card, and began the painting stage.
Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of this intermediate phase, so the following will already be those of the painted vehicle. But for these you will have to wait for the next post.
Thanks for watching.
Santi.
