How is your 30 years war project going?
I got some update on mine.

Only the musketeers are missing now. More soldiers are not needed, otherwise it will be too overloaded I think.

Nice work!
Just a point though, the officer pointing the pole-arm in the back right of the pikemen in the road, should be with the artillery.
He is holding a linstock, which holds the slow match for setting off the gun.

It looks great so far with a lot of action on it!

@Steve: what is the figure on the right with that "pike"? Is that a musketeer or something else?

That is the figure I was referring to in my post. He is holding a linstock. The slow match - cord soaked in nitrate, goes into the two outstretched arms of the head of the linstock so that there are two ends burning at once, and the gunner can use either to set off the powder on the touch-hole of the cannon.

I assume he has his hat in his hand because once a gun had been loaded and primed, the gunner would place a gauntlet or hat over the powder on the touch-hole to ensure no stray spark and set the gun off.

This clip illustrates it nicely and there is a linstock in use at 3:25 seconds

Thank you for that tip. Luckily the arrangement is not finalized and I can change it.
Good that you mentioned it

If you trim the arms of the linstock off, it would pass for a partisan, an officer's pole arm. But to be honest it's a very ugly figure, badly proportioned and he looks awkward, so I would use something else for an officer.

This is all looking very good and most impressive dombom. Keep up the good work!

My TYW project is somewhat 'delayed', as Strelets and their War of Spanish Succession range have been diverting my attention. My latest completed figures have been circa 100 Gardes Francais and Gardes Suisses for the period 1701-1714; nice figures, nice uniforms, but certainly not 1630s style.

I have however been trying to complete some TYW figures, and have this afternoon 'almost' finished 30 pikemen for a Swedish Brigade. I will certainly post as soon as I have enough figures actually finished and ready to show.

Hi dombom,

My TYW project remains on hold while I paint more WoSS figures: hopefully more of these will appear here in the next couple of months, but I have posted some in the Gallery already under 'War of Spanish Succession Armies'.

All good wishes,

Nice job bro ;-)

My progress is also very slow. Just can't find time to work on it, but at least i managed to spend couple of hours on the landscape:

I agree, excellent groundwork and a very convincing-looking artillery/siege battery. My only question concerns the gabions...they seem to have a lot of foliage (grass and bushes) growing out of them, maybe many weeks of growth?. Is this a long siege perhaps?

But the figures, guns, earth and earthworks look very fine indeed.

You are very right with the bushes on the gabions. I was thinking about a city siege, which can take quite some time. However, it seems like most sieges at this time were only for a couple of months at longest, so it would be enough time to grow some grass, but no bushes like the one I used. So I'm thinking of removing them and add some dried grass instead.
