No much shading, nor highlights and still your figures looks amazingly painted.
What's your secret?

I think it's the controlled, neat painting and black edge lining which separates colours, makes everything stand out.

Take one:

lirui's secret is that he wears authentic period armor while he paints.

Take two:

lirui's secret is that he does indeed shade and highlight, but he does it so well that he tricks your eye into thinking he hasn't done.

Take three:

lirui's secret is that he is, quite simply, a genius.

I almost didn't believe those gold dragon banners are freehand.... I had to look at them several times, but I can see how it is brushwork and how time intensive it would be.

Very, very impressive. Do you take commissions? I just really like the models.

Like works in a museum, we will only see and never own a version :(

Love the realistic, grounded paint scheme. I've always thought of Samurai as more multi-coloured but you seem to restrict them to more muted colours.

Do you happen to know anything about unit / army names in this period? I've got some material from Korean dramas like the Yonghogun army, Ungyanggun army- Six flying dragons episode 20, Black snake regiment - Northern Punitive force - my country the new age episode 3, Ga Byeol Cho squads 1 and 2 - Six Flying Dragons episode 17 18:43, and for the Samurai I've found The Seven Spears of Shizugatake, Genmutai (Black Tortoise Unit),[3], the Seiryūtai (Azure Dragon Unit),[4] and the Suzakutai (Vermilion Bird Unit), but do you have any more material? Everything I get is translated, and I think you've read primary sources so I welcome any info.
